FAQ
MonitorCam can send email alerts with image attachments when motion is detected. To activate this, the Send email alerts checkbox must be checked. The email address is specified in the Email address edit field.

MonitorCam supports two different mechanisms for sending emails. The user can select which one to use by either choosing Use MAPI or Use SMTP.

MAPI stands for Messaging Application Programming Interface and relies on the messaging architecture of Windows itself to send emails. If you normally use Microsoft Exchange Client, Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Outlook Express for reading your emails, the chances are that your Windows system is configured to use MAPI.

The second method, SMTP is the email transmission standard and SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. To use SMTP, you will need to specify the mail server name in Server name, the user Login name and Password. Please note that the password is stored in an encrypted form by MonitorCam using strong encryption.

To ensure that the email settings are correct, the Send test email button can be used. In case of any configuration or communication errors, an error will be displayed.

The rate at which emails are sent is determined by the settings 'Alarm start delay' and 'Alarm repeat delay' (see motion detection settings). The emails will have MonitorCam - motion detected @ YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS as subject line and the video frame sent as JPEG attachment.
